Tomasz Partyka – Born and Bred

The works presented within the second (after Bounce, bounce, 2006) exhibition by Tomasz Partyka in Le Guern Gallery are rich in stylistic and thematic variety. Besides the written canvases the painter is showing almost realistic portraits and canvases, which at first sight may look abstract."Painting is as dead as a dodo, it comes from the 19th century. Hence the title," says Tomasz Partyka. The title "Born and bred" can also be understood as the declaration of one's keenness on "found footage" aesthetics. His paintings are composed of mixed fragments of forgotten magazines, characters from the daily press, feature and animated films. (...) *Despite of these evident „borrowings” not everything in his paintings is obvious. Their author often draws their anecdotes from something that is invisible on the paintings. Even more often he finds meanings in apparently insignificant details, which usually escape our attention.
