Pawel Ferus - You Better Run

You Better Run is Paweł Ferus’s first individual exhibition in Poland. Ferus is an artist of Polish origin living in Switzerland. The presentation is held as part of continued co-operation between the galleries Le Guern and balzer projects in Basel.
With a background in sculpture, Ferus combines many different forms of expression, treading the line between figuration and abstraction. You Better Run presents sculptures and installations arranged by Ferus within the gallery space. With a sense of humour and a touch of irony, Ferus guides the visitors around the perimeter of stereotypes and associations surrounding broadly understood physical culture juxtaposed with a traditional understanding of the artist’s work environment. In his art practice, Ferus evokes features and events from the domain of mass culture and sports, as well as history and politics. Handled by the artist and placed in an interaction with the audience, everyday objects create new narratives and find new contexts. The artist explores canonical works of art, engaging recognised masters in a creative dialogue.
Paweł Ferus (born in 1973) trained at the Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst in Basel. He is a certified master in stonemasonry. He has shown his works at individual and group exhibitions in Switzerland (balzer projects in Basel, Lokal.int in Biel, Garage in Zurich, Kunstmuseum Olten), Germany (Kunst- Haus am Schüberg in Hamburg), South Africa (Arts on Main in Johannesburg), Austria (Temporäre Kunsthalle Klagenfurt), and the USA (Austrian Appartment). He won the Rentsch Foundation Award in 2017 as well as fellowships from IAAB&ProHelvetia South Africa (2014) and the Alexander Clavel Stiftung (2010).
