Włodzimierz Jan Zakrzewski
Born 1946 in Łódź. Studied painting at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in the ateliers of Juliusz Studnicki and Krystyna Łada-Studnicka, and composition in the atelier of Roman Owidzki. Based in the United States 1981-2000, he now lives and works in Warsaw. Artist-in-residence: 1978-79 and 1982, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; 1994 – De Pont Foundation, Amsterdam; 1995-96 Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin. Zakrzewski’s work has been exhibited in numerous one-man and group shows, e.g. at Marian Goldman Gallery, Vanderwoude Tananbaum Gallery, Brooklyn Museum and TZ’Art & Co. in New York; Künstlerhaus Bethanien and Thomas Schulte Galerie in Berlin; Wetering Galerie in Amsterdam; Zachęta National Gallery of Art, Foksal Gallery and CCA Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw; or Ego Gallery in Poznań. His works are held in the collections of the National Museum in Warsaw, the National Museum in Poznań, Muzeum Sztuki (Łódź), Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam), Brooklyn Museum (New York), Museum Bochum, and at Zachęta National Gallery of Art, CCA Ujazdowski Castle and Foksal Gallery in Warsaw, among other institutions.
