Pawel Matyszewski
Born in 1984 in Bialystok. He graduated with an MA in painting from the Poznan Academy of Fine Arts under professor Piotr C. Kowalski. Works by Pawel Matyszewski obsessively circle around the impermanence of human life and natural phenomena. He is fascinated by the changeability and fragility of the human environment as well as marginal events which arouse extreme emotions. His works, which border on both realism and abstraction, seem akin to the fabric of the human body. While some of the works are infused with eroticism, others look much like dead skin, yet all have both a sensuous and visual impact. He has shown his solo projects at Arsenal Gallery in Bialystok, Biala Gallery in Lublin, Piekary Gallery and Starter Gallery in Poznan, Center for Creative Activities in Ustka. His works have been also exhibited in numerous group shows in Poland and abroad (Zacheta - National Gallery of Art in Warsaw, BWA Gallery in Bielsko-Biala, Museum of Contemporary Art in Minsk, Belarus, Tartu Art House in Estonia and many other). He was a recipient of numerous awards and fellowships, including The 'Young Poland' Fellowship of the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, artistic awards at 'Bielska Jesien' Painting Biennale and the 'Fish Eye' Biennale.
